You have a number of options for filtering your Insights dashboard based on date. This article explains how to complete the specific criteria for each type of date filter.
When you select Date as the Type of field for an Insights dashboard, you can include a default value or adjust the filter criteria from the dashboard. Refer to Filtering Data in Insights for the steps for adding/editing a filter or adjusting a filter.
The Date filter includes a number of different options. To select one of these date filters, complete the criteria as follows:
- Is in the past — This criteria is the most common for dates, and allows you to select past and current time frames for your data. When you select is in the past from the condition drop down list, enter a number and the time frame. The first options in the time frame drop down list indicate current time frames, while the “complete” options indicate past time frames. For example, if you enter 1 month, the filter will show data for the current month, whereas if you enter 1 complete month, the filter will show last month’s data.
- Is on the day — This criteria allows you to view results for an exact date. Select the date and the dashboard will always show results for that selected date.
- Is in range — The range criteria allows you to create a customized time period for your date filter. Select the date for the beginning of the range. For the second field, select the date after the last date you want included in the range. For example, if you wanted to include all of April, you would select 1 May for the until (before) date.
- Is before — The is before criteria allows you to show a forecast within a limited window. When you select is before from the condition drop down list, you’ll need to select whether the date range is relative or absolute.
- If you select absolute, select a specific date.
- If you select relative, enter a number and the time frame. For example, you can select 7 days ago to view data from before a week ago or projections for a month from now.
- Is on or after — The is on or after criteria allows you to show a forecast within a limited window. When you select is on or after from the condition drop down list, you’ll need to select whether the date range is relative or absolute.
- If you select absolute, select a specific date.
- If you select relative, enter a number and the time frame.
- Is in the year — This criteria allows you to show data for a specific year. Enter the year.
- Is null — This criteria allows you to show any data where the date field is blank.
- Is anytime — The is anytime criteria shows all time periods in your Upsales account, which can help you test your dashboard before deploying it.
- Is not null — This criteria will show any data where the date field is not blank.
- Matches Attribute — The matches a user attribute option does not apply for date fields. Contact an Upsales B.I. consultant if you need to add a user attribute based on date.
- Matches Advanced — The matches advanced filter allows you to create more complex combinations. You can enter simple syntax, such as “last week” or “tomorrow”, or more complicated time frames, such as “3 months ago for 6 months”, which will show six months of data starting from 3 months in the past.
Most of the date filters allow you to combine multiple filters. To create a combination filter, complete the following steps:
- Select the criteria and any additional information for the first filter.
- Select the + to the right of the filter details.
- An OR argument is added, with another set of Date fields. Select the new condition and the related information.
You can add multiple filters by repeating the process. The Matches Advanced criteria is not available for combination filters.
