You can use other segments to include or exclude contacts from a new segment.
Perhaps you want to exclude any contacts already in another segment. Or, you may want to include all contacts from a specific segment. However, you may end up with an endless loop error.
Creating an endless loop
When this happens, the segment criterion you just changed turns red and a help icon appears next to it:
You've selected two (or more) segments that are set to include contacts from each other. This means:
- Segment A will import contacts from Segment B.
- Those contacts are added into Segment A.
- Segment B will then start the import from Segment A, which brings you back to Segment A starting it's import again.
Congratulations, you almost created an endless loop.
The solution might vary, depending on what you are trying to achieve. If you want your new segment to include the same contacts as another segment, the best solution may be just to use the same filters for both segments. Remember that segments are dynamically updated, so the same contacts will be in both segments if they use the same criteria.
Maximum number of segments in segments reached
A segment can pull in at most 500 segments in total. This count includes the segments used as filters inside the segments you selected, and a segment counts again each time it is used. If your segment goes over 500, it shows the error Maximum number of segments in segments reached. Remove some of the segment criteria, or use the underlying filters directly instead of nesting segments.
A segment criterion matches no contacts
If a segment used as a filter has been deleted, Upsales treats it as an empty segment and shows no error. With Any or All it adds no contacts, and with Is not it excludes no one. Open the criterion and replace the deleted segment.
