What is the issue? Modern email clients like Outlook and Gmail use automated systems to scan incoming emails. Bots click on links to check for harmful sites, leading to some recorded clicks being from bots rather than actual recipients.
How does this affect you?
- Inaccurate click statistics: Many bot clicks can skew your click statistics, making it seem like more people engaged with your email campaign than actually did.
- Challenges in measuring engagement: Distinguishing between bot and genuine clicks complicates assessing your email campaign's effectiveness, impacting follow-up strategies and success analysis.
What can be done about this? In Upsales, you can set a delay before opens and clicks are counted. Most bots click links within 10 minutes of email delivery, so a delay can help reduce bot click counts.
To set the delay, go to Settings → Marketing → Email settings. Under Score email recipient's actions, enter a number of minutes (0 to 60) in Minimum delay and save. The delay is 0 (off) until you change it, and it applies to your whole account.
Opens and clicks that happen within the delay are not recorded at all. They are left out of your statistics and give the contact no score. This also applies to a real recipient who opens or clicks during that time.
