A: When a form is submitted, Upsales looks for an existing company in the order below and uses the first match. If nothing matches, a new company is created.
- The DUNS number, if the form sends one and exactly one company has it.
- The email address. If a contact with that email address already exists, the submit is added to that contact and to the company the contact belongs to, even if the visitor typed a different company name. Inactive contacts count too.
- The company name, if the form has a company name field and exactly one company has that name.
- The organization number, if the form has an organization number field and exactly one company has it.
- The email domain. If contacts in Upsales already use the same domain (for example @acme.com), the submit is added to one of their companies. When several companies have contacts on that domain, the one with the most contacts on it is chosen. Free email domains such as gmail.com, hotmail.com and outlook.com are never used for this.
So a submit lands on the wrong company when the submitter already exists as a contact on that company, or when that company has the same name, organization number or email domain. To send later submits from the same person to the right company, move their contact to that company.
