Segments is a really powerful way of automatically splitting your contacts into different groups depending on their information. Since your segments are always synced with your sales and marketing data the use case is huge.
For example, selecting contacts that match these criteria:
- Is not a customer today
- Does not have an ongoing sales process
- Has generated marketing score by visiting a specific page
- Hasn't unsubscribed
Benefits? There are several:
🎯 Always send content to the correct contacts
Your database will always be updated with new, updated and deleted contacts by your users and integrations. With segments, you can be sure that you always will have the correct contacts to contact in your marketing campaigns, because segments are dynamic and always updated based on your data. We can only add contacts in your segment that exist in your database (We like to think that we are magicians but haven't any proof of that yet).
Combine both marketing and sales data in your segment
Wouldn't it be cool if you can communicate with your customers with different content based on where they are in the sales process? The unique advantage when you use Upsales is that you have one database with your marketing and sales data. This means that you can create different segments based on your marketing and sales data and communicate the right content to the right contacts at the right time.
Let's get real! Create your segment
Video: Shows how to create a segment in Upsales
When you start to select contacts you want to have in you segment there are two options to filter them; including and excluding criteria. You can combine both including and excluding criteria in your segment.
The filters you apply imports contacts to your segment over time. So whenever a contact matches the criteria they are added to the segment
These are the reversed option from the including criteria. That means that all contacts that match the criteria will be removed from the segment. The exluding criteria have higher priority than the including ones.
Match all or match any criteria
You have the option on both include and exclude criteria to choose to match all or any criteria. For most use cases you want to match all including criteria but any of the excluding criteria you add to your segment. i.e. I want to include all contacts that match all of the following criteria:
- have an address in Sweden
- are a paying customer
- is CEO
And I want to exclude any contact matches the following criteria:
- have purchased product Y
- have an address in Gothenburg
have an address in Karlstad
