Sometimes an email doesn’t get delivered to your recipient. If this happens, we’ll let you know and include one of the reasons below.
Reasons for email not delivered
Click Marketing → Email campaigns:
Click a campaign and open the Recipients tab. The Action column shows why an email wasn't delivered. Click Not delivered to filter the list, for example on Email bounced or Previous bounce.
If an email bounced, the Action column shows one of the reasons below:
Classified as spam
Your email has been marked as spam. This may be because of the recipient’s server, or because the recipient has classified it as spam. Ask the recipient to add your email address to their safe sender list and try again.
Email too large
Your email is too large for the recipient’s server. Try reducing the file size of your email attachments, or use a file upload service such as Dropbox to send your files.
Inbox full
The recipient's inbox is full. Contact them another way and ask them to free up some space. Then try sending again.
Invalid recipient
The mailbox name is either incorrect or doesn’t exist. We recommend removing the email address from your list.
An address that hard bounces, such as an invalid recipient, is added to your bounce list, and later campaigns skip it with the status Previous bounce. If the address is correct, click Unbounce on the recipient's row to remove it from the bounce list. Each month you can unbounce up to 2% of your total number of contacts (1 if you have fewer than 50 contacts).
Temporarily blocked
The recipient’s server has blocked your email. If this has happened to just one email, it may be a temporary technical problem. Try sending again later.
If this has happened to several emails, the recipient’s server may be blocking emails due to the content or your domain.
Unknown error
Upsales couldn't classify the reply from the recipient’s server. Click the recipient's row: under History, the Email bounced entry shows the server's reply in brackets. Please check the email address is correct.
Recipients that were skipped
Some recipients are left out before the campaign is sent. The Action column then shows Not delivered with one of these reasons:
- Duplicate: another recipient in the campaign has the same email address, so the email was sent only once.
- Inactive contact: the contact is inactive.
- Missing email: the contact has no email address.
- Invalid email: the email address isn't valid. Correct it on the contact.
- Previous bounce: the address is on your bounce list after an earlier bounce. See Invalid recipient.
- Previously unsubscribed: the contact has unsubscribed from your emails.
- Overworked: the contact has already received the maximum number of emails set in Email settings, and the contact was excluded with Exclude from email when the campaign was set up.
If the whole campaign wasn't sent, check that your sending domain is verified and that the email contains an Unsubscribe link. See Email deliverability & avoiding spam filters.
